Nuoro

Nuoro is a town in central Sardinia and capital of the Province of Nuoro, which is one of the less densely populated areas of Europe. The town has approximately 36.00 inhabitants and is located on a 600 m high plateau in a panoramic position.

Nuoro, the hometown of the Nobel Prize Winner in Literature Grazia Deledda, is about 125 km away from Olbia in the north and about 180 km from the islands capital Cagliari in the south.

The city centre has nice shops and bars which invites to relaxing stays. On the Piazza San Sebastiano Satta are positioned some of the works of the famous Italian sculptor Constantino Nivola. A trip to the near Monte Orto Bene (995 m) rewards with a wide panoramic view.

Worth a visit is surely the modern arte museum Museo d’Arte Provincia di Nuoro (MAN) which is located in Via Sebastiano Satta 15. Others museums in town are the Museo della Vita e delle Tradizioni Popolari (Via A. Mereu 56) and the archeological museum (Via Mannu 3). The exhibition which is dedicated to Grazia Deledda can be visited in her birthplace in Via Grazia Deledda 42.

Nearby Nuoro there are a lot of testimonies of prehistorical settlements, like the Tanca Manna's Nuraghe with about 800 huts, dated among the 20th century BC.
