Teulada-Pixinni

Teulada is a small town about 65 km in the south-west of Cagliari on the beautiful south coast of Sardinia (Costa del Sud). The town with approx. 4000 inhabitants became in the last decade a known touristy centre for this region and is located a few km inland. The name Teulada goes back to the Latin "tegula" and refers to the great production of terracotta.

Some of the churches of Teulada are worth a visit, like the parish church of the Madonna del Carmelo, the gothic church of San Francesco, which has a sanctuary covered with a wooden trussed roof and a simple facade with a bell gable and the church of Sant'Isidoro. The baronial house of the Sanjust family in front of the parish church is used for temporary exhibitions.

Beaches and coves
The Gulf of Teulada with its coastline is set between Capo Malfatano and Capo Teulada which marks the most southern point of Sardinia. Long sandy beaches alternates with rocky coves and the surrounding landscape is wild and mainly unspoilt.

The Gulf of Teulada certainly deserves a visit for the splendid beaches of Potu e s'Arena, Portu Tramatzu, Malfatano e Piscinnì. There are also beaches which are reachable only by boat like the one of Porto Zafferano with the highest white sand dunes in Sardinia. The coves like Punta Niedda or Campionna are ideal for fishing or relaxing in privacy.

Other beautiful beaches to explore are located on the eastside of Teulada between Domus de Maria and Pula like the long and golden sandy beach of Chia dominated by a Spanish tower or the nearby Calla Cipolla.

Unfortunately a part of the coast line near Capo Teulada is occupied by the NATO and therefore not accessible because of military restrictions.

Archeological sites
Nearby Teulada can be visited the ruins of the roman-phoenician town Bithia. Another place worth visiting are the ruins of Nora about 30 km away from Teulada on the way to Cagliari nearby Pula. Located on a narrow tip directly on the sea the place come up with a roman theatre, a temple, intact streets and much more.

Mountains and cavities
The mountains and hills surrounding Teulada invites to special excursions: The forest Guttru Mannu with the Mount Punta Sebera is worth visiting not only for relaxing walks in an untouched nature and rich Mediterranean vegetation but also for its high altitude panoramas.

In the north of Teulada and approx. 30 km away at Santadi one should visit the spectacular cavity of Is Zuddas with its unique concretions of minerals and crystals.

Some kilometers away is the cantina of Santadi, established in 1960 and famous for its high quality wines maturating in French barriques barrels like the red wines Terre Brune, Rocca Rubia, Araja, Grotta Rossa and Antigua, and the whites Cala Silente, Pedraia and Latiniathe Carignano del Sulcis.

Feast and more
Like everywhere in Sardinia also in Teulada taking place some religious feast, for example at the end of June San Giovanni Battista, and in July the Patron Saint of the Madonna del Carmelo. In August will be celebrated Sant'Isidoro, the Patron Saint of farmers, but also organized the “Bread and Cheese Festival” in the garden of the baronial house.
