An often forgotten paradise. Ogliastra is the wild soul of Sardinia, characterised by splendid mountainous landscapes and unmissable beaches. The Ogliastra coast invites you to discover it, by land or by sea, with the boat trips offered in the area.
If we were to draw up a ranking of the most beautiful beaches, you would have an endless list available. For this reason, we want to offer you ten of the most beautiful ones, to be seen at least once in your life (but also a second, a third, a fourth…).
Su Sirboni beach
Reachable via a path, made more accessible in recent years, Su Sirboni (Sardinian name for “wild boar”) is a small cove immersed in the Mediterranean scrub, where you can glimpse the remains of an abandoned tourist village. The crystal clear water and red granite rocks make it one of a kind and perfect for snorkelling. And if you love surfing, it could be the right destination for you (winds permitting).
Coccorrocci beach
Forget the stretches of fine white sand. Coccorrocci is famous for the volcanic pebbles that colour the beach, which are also visible on the seabed once you enter the water. Many do not know, however, that its name is not a reference to the rock, but to “coccorrocius”, or marine snails.
If you love bouncing stones on the water, you certainly won’t be bored.
Cala Goloritzé
A petition should be made to name the breathtaking colour of these waters as “Goloritzé colour”. A cove is hidden in the mountains, an example of unspoilt Sardinian nature, which expresses its soul between green paths and clear seabeds (for this reason it is part of one of the marine protected areas in Sardinia).
If trekking is your passion, you can have a unique experience to reach the beach: a path of about 3 km, immersed in the Mediterranean scrub; bring water and a little patience with you, it will be worth it. If, on the other hand, your idea of a holiday is less sporty, numerous raft or boat trips are organised. You can also rent the boat that best suits your needs.
Santa Maria Navarrese beach
A town to admire, which overlooks a beach with shallow waters, suitable for children. If you decide to stay overnight in Santa Maria Navarrese, you can reach it directly on foot. The sand is white, mixed with pebbles, and the water is clear and crystalline. Thanks to its position, it remains sheltered from the winds, so that you can enjoy the view as the hours pass, until the lights of sunset.
Perd’e Pera beach
If you don’t like crowded beaches, we have the answer to your needs. Very fine sand, immediately high seabed; a pristine beach enriched by the nuraghe that gives it its name to the locality itself. A pine forest will relieve the summer heat and will be the perfect place to have lunch, surrounded by greenery.
Cala di Pedra Longa
We want to think that when Vianello sang “with flippers, rifle, and goggles”, He meant precisely this cove. The sand is almost non-existent because nature gives us a splendid visual contrast: the cliff suddenly leaves room for the strength and colours of the sea. The name means “high stone”, due to the presence of limestone rocks.
Despite being an example of the “wild Ogliastra”, rest assured: you will find refreshment points and also a large parking lot.
Torre di Barì beach
The tower rises in all its magnificence, on a bed of green Mediterranean scrub, and divides the beach in half. The northernmost area is characterised by coarse-grained sand and separated from the road by a cool pine forest that overlooks the parking lots. In the southern area, on the other hand, we find much finer white sand.
Thanks to the rocky landscape, you can admire wonderful seabeds.
Museddu beach
It extends for kilometers, and this allows it to transform itself. Here you can only get around on foot. Along the way, the size of the sand grains and their colours vary, to give you different visual and emotional experiences. You can find some establishments where you can rent a sunbed and umbrella, or you can have a more “natural” experience.
The water is medium-high, so you have to be careful in case there are children with you.
Cea beach
Not far from Tortolì, one of the main centre of Ogliastra, this shallow beach will captivate you, with its crystalline colours and the fine white beach, which contrasts with the red rocks that characterize it. It has all the desirable amenities, including the possibility of renting canoes and pedal boats: the view of the red rocks up close is priceless!
Cala Mariolu
A unique sensory experience: the sharp stone of the cliff meets the smooth and coarse sand; the gaze is lost in the blue of the sea, which becomes darker and darker as the gaze turns towards the horizon. Cala Mariolu is another unmissable cove part of the protected marine area in the Gulf of Orosei. It owes its name to the monk seal that once lived in this area and stole fish from humans (hence the nickname “mariolu”, or thief).
We recommend shoes suitable for stones and an underwater camera: the water is full of fish, and the selfies taken here will make all your friends envy you!
