The Sella & Mosca estates were born in the late 1800s by two adventurous Piedmontese. They are amongst the largest estates in Europe and tell a very interesting story about innovation in viticulture and the economic and social development of Alghero. Along with tastings and glamorous events, a visit to the immense estate is also a nice dive into the history of these lands. Right on the edge of the estate in 1903 the sensational necropolis of Anghelu Ruju was discovered, to which a small museum is dedicated. The heart of the estate is the characteristic little square where the church of the Madonna dell’Uva overlooks. On the Alghero estate Sella & Mosca cultivates and vinifies the Torbato line of DOC Alghero, a native vine, together with Vermentino and Cannonau di Sardegna.
Between Castelsardo and the Gallura mountains at the Ligios Winery
In Valledoria, a locality of the Anglona overlooking the splendid Strait of Bonifacio, there is a very characteristic and welcoming small cellar where wines of great quality are made. The vineyards of the Ligios Winery are located in a special panoramic position overlooking the landscape and the stretch of sea that goes from Castelsardo to the Gallura mountains. Grapes are harvested strictly by hand, and the grapes are fermented in direct contact with the pomace for at least a week as per family tradition. 4 labels that include an excellent Cannonau, 2 IGT Isola Dei Nuraghi in which local red grapes are vinified with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, and finally a fresh Vermentino. The whole process takes place directly in the cellar.

In Cabras, for four generations, the Contini family has dedicated itself to the enhancement of Vernaccia di Oristano, the first DOC of Sardinia recognised in the 70s. The family estates embrace a suggestive corner of the island that from the Sinis Peninsula reaches the Tirso Valley climbing up to the slopes of Monte Arci. Tastings take place in the historic cellar, a few kilometres from the splendid archaeological site of Tharros, near Mont’i Prama, a site that has yielded the most extraordinary archaeological discovery in recent years.
