Budoni in brief – tourist’s information and more
Budoni with about 5,200 inhabitants is one of the most popular tourist resorts in Sardinia and is located on the north-east coast, between San Teodoro in the north and Siniscola in the south. The village is about 36 km from Olbia with a ferry port and an international airport.
What are the top attractions to see in Budoni
Thanks to the long beaches of fine sand and the crystal clear sea water, Budoni has become one of the main destinations for a beach holiday in Sardinia. Budoni does not have an historical center, like for example Orosei, but offers a wide range of bars, restaurants, ice cream parlors, supermarkets and shops. Especially in summer, Budoni attracts many tourists thanks to its lively nightlife with discos and live music events in some clubs and bars on the beach.
The beaches around Budoni
The long sand beach of Budoni is located about 500 m from the center and easily reachable also on foot or by bike. The beach with a length of more than 1 mile has different name: Li Salineddi, Salamaghe, Lido del Sole and Sa Capannizza.
South of Budoni and separated by a promontory are the bays of Porto Ainu and Sant’Anna, while further north the beaches are named Li Cucutti and Lu Cuppulati and, in front of the small island of Ottiolu, the beautiful beach of Cala Ottiolu. Of course, there are also beach services with the possibility to rent umbrellas, sunbeds, canoes and pedal boats. The kiosks offer cool beverages, ice cream and snacks.
In the summer months there is a dog-friendly beach between Li Cucutti and Budoni beach, where pets are welcome.
Best things to do in Budoni and surroundings
There is especially in summer a wide choice of boat trips from the marina of Porto Otiolu to explore the beautiful coastline. If you want to go on your own, you can rent smaller boats, some with electric motor, or, if you have a boat license, charter a motor boat or a sailing yacht.
About 3 km south-west of Budoni it is possible to visit the archaeological area of the Nuraghe Conca and Bentu and the Su Entosu Tower, of Spanish origin.
West of Budoni is the sight called Stazzi di San Pietro, a group of old shepherd’s huts and simple houses built with stones, mud and mortar and whose internal walls were painted in bright colors. A tour through the Stazzi will give an insight into the ancient agricultural traditions and the difficulties of former pastoral life in Sardinia.
The hinterland of Budoni is recommended in spring and autumn for outdoor activities in Sardinia. There are many tours for cycling holidays, let it be mountain or trekking bikes, to get in touch with the nearly unspoilt nature. In general the tracks are not to arduous, mostly well-paved and therefore easy to ride.
About 15 km north-west of Budoni and near San Teodoro is the Monte Maggiore mountain, more than 3,280 ft high, with its Monte Nieddu woodland: for nature lovers there are various trekking routes (not marked) partly along the river Rio Pitrisconi, with starting point at the Stazzi Petrisconi forester’s lodge or at the Budditorgiu spring. The duration is about 4 and 4½ hours.
