Galtellì in brief – tourist’s information and more
Galtellì is a small village nearby the town of Orosei in the north east of Sardinia and embedded in a green and fertile zone and dominated by the mountain Monte Tuttavista. The comunity has about 2.500 inhabitants and is situated 25 km in the east of Nuoro and about 140 km away from Cagliari, the capital of the island. Olbia with its airport and harbour is about 90 km away and Orosei is at a distance of 8 km.
The picturesque centre of Galtellì one of the best conserved in Sardinia is characterized by narrow lines, historic houses and churches like the cathedral of St. Peter with roman frescos.
About 10 kilometers from here there is the coast of Orosei which one can reach also by a cycle track. Nearby, there are some of the most beautiful beaches of Sardinia: Osala, Su Barone and Su Petrosu, Cala Liberotto, Sa Curcurica, Cala Ginepro, the natural park Biderrosa, Berchida beaches and the dunes of Capo Comino.
Don’t miss the opportunity of a boat excursion to the Orosei Gulf stopping at the Grotta del Bue Marino (Sea Ox Cave), Cala Luna, Cala Mariolu, Cala Goloritzé, and at Tavolara Isle.
In the massif of the Gennargentu worth a visit are the Ispinigoli caves. And last but not least for trekking-fans: the Gorropu is the widest canyon in Europe.
