San Teodoro in brief – tourist information and more

The municipality of San Teodoro, with around 4,000 inhabitants, is located in north-east Sardinia and belongs to the province of Olbia-Tempio. Olbia in the north, with its airport and port, is around 20 miles away, and the island’s capital, Caglairi, situated on the south coast, is 155 miles away.

What are the best attractions to see in San Teodoro

San Teodoro has become in the recent decades one of the most popular holiday destination of Sardinia. Only 0,6 miles from the city centre begins the long child-friendly La Cinta beach, with amazing white sand and an excellent sea water quality.

Of course, San Teodoro offers different kinds of shops, and when strolling through the center, there are a lot of bars and cafes for a short break or restaurants for tasting the exquisite Mediterranean and Sardinia cuisine. Especially in the summer, San Teodoro offers a lively nightlife with clubs and discos nd live music.

The beaches of San Teodoro

The La Cinta beach is nearly 2 miles long and a paradise for toddlers digging in the sand and children playing on the beach.

Other mentionable beaches around San Teodoro are from south to north: Isuledda, Cala d’Ambra, Punta Aldia, Lu Impostu, Cala Brandinchi, Salina Bamba, Baia Salinedda, Cala Suaraccia and Cala Ginepro.

The Coda Cavallo beach in front of the offshore island of Tavolara is particularly popular with children.

Obviously there are several beach services with the rental of sunbeds, umbrellas and pedal boats, and for water sports activities like surfing, snokeling and scuba diving. Different surf schools offer age-appropriate courses for individualists and small groups.

Best things to do in San Teodoro and surroundings

A paradise for bird watching is the lagoon near to San Teodoro, a precious ecosystem for wetland and marine. The lagoon is home to the pink flamingos and other birds like cormorants, herons, coots, kingfishers and, kestrels.

A visit to the offshore island of Tavolara is certainly worthwhile. The island is 3 miles long and 0,6 miles wide  and can be reached from Porto San Paolo with regular boat excursions. Mainly with steep cliffs there is the possibility to take a bath in the northeast (Spalmatore di Fuori) in in the southwest (Spalmatore di Terra). The small island is inhabited only by some families.

If you want to catch a bird’s eye view over San Teodoro and the beautiful coast stretch, we recommend to book an emotional flight in an micro light airplane (only one passenger) from the airfield Lu Scupaglio near the lagoon. Flights to La Maddalena archipelago in the northeast are also available on request.

The Foresta demaniale di Usinavà, a State forest with an area of approx. 1,100 hectares, is located about 15 miles inland, in the territory of the municipality of Torpè : various paths lead through an unique Mediterranean flora and fauna, and show that Sardinia has to offer much more than only sea and beaches. The natural reserve can be explored on foot, by horse or with mountain bikes.
