Another mix of road walks, paths and trails takes you back to Santu Lussurgiu. You will have time to detour to the viewpoint above the town, where a statue of Christ overlooks the village, and walk down through the labyrinth of narrow streets of Santu Lussurgiu.
Day 3: Santu Lussurgiu – Santa Caterina di Pittinuri (22km/7h)
The route leads from the village of Santu Lussurgiu, located in the Montiferru mountains, to Santa Caterina di Pittinuri, located directly on the sea. You will pass through oak forests, olive groves and quiet pastures.
Day 4: Santa Caterina di Pittinuri – Putzu Idu (16km/5h)
Optional morning hike to the popular natural arch of S'Archittu. Afterwards, take the shuttle to the Is Benas lagoon, home to large colonies of grey herons and pink flamingos. A beautiful path along the limestone cliff takes you to the beach of Su Pallosu and Capo Mannu with its lighthouse and old Spanish watchtowers. Your base for tonight is Putzu Idu, a village on a stretch of coastline often visited by the strong Mistral wind, which has made it a popular spot for sailing and surfing.
Day 5: Putzu Idu – San Salvatore Sinis (18km/5.5h)
The day begins with a hike along the amazing cliffs of Su Tingiosu, 6 km of limestone with many bird nests. The cliffs end at the beautiful quartz beaches of Is Aruttas and Mari Ermi, whose sand consists of small quartz grains that are very similar to rice seeds. On the last part of your day, you will head inland, crossing artichoke and wheat fields to reach San Salvatore Sinis, famous for its church built over a hypogeum.
Day 6: Tharros Loop (15km/4.5 hours)
A day trip on foot across fields and along the lagoon to San Giovanni, continuing on to the interesting site of Tharros, which dates back to the 8th century BC. Visit the ancient Basilica Paleocristiana di San Giovanni di Sinis, dating from 470 AD. Here you will meet the main tourist trail to the site of Tharros. After an hour here and a stop at the café, you can take the smaller footpaths along the coast for a walk around Capo S Marco.
Day 7: Cabras Loop (10km/3h)
A pleasant path takes you from San Salvatore to Cabras, the main centre of Sinis. Along the route, you will walk past artichoke fields, Vernaccia vineyards, olive groves and the Cabras lagoon, the largest in the area, famous for its mullet and, above all, its bottarga, cured mullet roe. Don't miss the fresh fish, bottarga and Vernaccia wine.
