For example the Monte Limbara massif, the highest mountain range in the north of Sardinia: The two bare granite peaks Punta Balistreri and Punta sa Berritta are visible from afar, and the slopes of the massif are covered with chestnuts, pedunculate oaks, pines and firs almost to the top.

The peaks are not that high (the Punta Sa Berritta is a 1360 m high) but the area of the Monte Limbara massif offers a lot of variety and an amazing landscape.

The position

The rustic Vallicciola Monte Limbara Nature Hotel is located amidst the rugged peaks of the Monte Limbara area and is surrounded by a green forests of holm oaks and tall fir trees.

The Monte Limbara region is located near Tempio Pausania and less than an hour from the most beautiful beaches of Gallura and the Costa Smeralda.

The hiking trails in Monte Limbara (approx. 6,680 hectares) are of course suitable for hiking, cycling, mountain running, Nordic walking and horse riding.

The hotel is quiet and protected from wind and noise in a beautiful forest with holm oaks and fir trees.

In the outdoor area in front of the hotel there are several cozy sitting areas, where you can relax after a hike and chat with other guests.

The hotel has a bar and a good restaurant.

The Vallicciola offers a total of 18 rooms, 11 in the main building and 7 in small bungalows close to the hotel.

Some of the rooms are handicapped accessible.

The comfortable rooms are traditionally furnished with lots of wood and have their own bathroom.

These rooms on the ground floor are somewhat larger and are located in the bungalows near the hotel.

The surrounding nature: mountains, flora and fauna

Monte Limbara is certainly one of the most popular mountain areas in Sardinia: Granite stones formed by wind and weather, in the middle of a dense forest landscape of pines, firs, juniper and cork trees with streams and springs, offer everything for a wonderful hiking holiday.

The Punta Sa Berritta still reaches 1,362 m, and near Punta Balistreri (1,359 m) is the church of the Madonna della Neve.

The slopes of Limbara are partially covered with vineyards and the bees feed on nectar and honeydew here.

The Sardinian-Corsican violet also grows here, a rare flower that can only be found in Corsica and Sardinia and on the island of Elba.

The fauna of Limbara is diverse, there are wild boars, mouflons, weasels, martens, wild rabbits, the Sardinian hare and the Bedriaga lizard.

Bird species include the golden eagle, the buzzard, the peregrine falcon and the hawk.
