Cannigione in brief – travel information and more
The community of Cannigione with its 800 inhabitants is about 5 km away from Arzachena in the north-east of Sardegna and located directly on the sea. Founded in the 19th century as a fishing village nowadays it becomes a popular sea resort of the region thanks also to its vicinity to the Costa Smeralda.
Cannigione has a small marina. From here – especially in summer – it is possible to visit by boat the fascinating la Maddalena Archipelago, a natural geomarine park.
In the surroundings of Cannigione the Rio San Giovanni river flows into the Arzachena Gulf and creates one of the most important wetlands of Sardinia called Stagni di Saloni, a haven for a variety of birds, like herons, wild ducks, purple gallinules and – last but not least – the flamingos.
