Luogosanto in brief – travel information and more

Luogosanto, a small village in the Gallura region in northern Sardinia. It is still considered a “sacred” place, as it is a destination for several pilgrimages with its 22 sanctuaries spanning its territory. The population of less than 2,000 inhabitants began at the beginning of the 13th century with the arrival of the Franciscans, who built one of the first monasteries of the Order. It now houses a museum that is also a medieval documentation center in Gallura.

On the slopes of Ghjuanni, where the village is located, there is a nuragic site with a “meeting hut”, which is still intact today. Other priceless historic buildings are the Villa de Sent Steva, the Palazzo di Baldu and the castle of Balaiana, a summer residence of the judges.

The area of Luogosanto is one of the areas with the highest density of typical Gallura buildings, the Stazzi: 350 have been measured so far. Luogosanto is very easy to reach. It is approximately 43 km from the port of Olbia or Olbia airport, and about 50 km from the port of Golfo Aranci.
