Discover Sardinia's coast by renting best price sailboats, catamarans and motor yachts
The boats for a Yacht Charter in Sardinia are modern and equipped with comfortable cabins (as double cabins or with bunk beds) and of course toilets with shower. If you have a license, you can sail without skipper with your family or your friends and discover the beauties of Sardinia's coast.
But you can also choose a boat with a skipper who will show you the best places for sailing holidays in Sardinia. On request we organize also Crewed Yacht Charters with hostess.
The quotes for a yacht charter does not include additional charges like the mooring fees in the other ports except from the one of embarkation and disembarkation, the final cleaning of the boat and the cost of food, fresh water and fuel. The rental of bed linen and towels, however, is optional and on request.
As with holiday homes, villas and other accommodation in Sardinia, the quotes for a boat rental in July and August are higher as a consequenze of supply and demand. We recommend off-season boat holidays in Sardinia, first of all they are more economic and you have a wider choice.
How I get to Sardinia for a yacht charter and sailing holidays
Sardinia is the second largest island of Italy and if you prefer to come by plane you can easily fly from some European airports or from the Italian mainland via Milan and Rome to Olbia-Costa Smeralda, Alghero and Cagliari in Sardinia.
Olbia is the best destination if you plan to discover the north coast with a base in Cannigione, Porto Cervo or other marinas.
For the west coast we reccomend Alghero and for the south surely Cagliari. From the airports we organize on request also a transfer or transport to the chosen marina.
The main ferry harbours in Sardinia are Porto Torres, Olbia and Golfo Aranci in the north. You can get there all year round from Genua, Livorno, Piombino and Civitavecchia (near Rome). There are day and nights ferries and the duration is between 9 and 12 hours. On request we send you our quotes for ferries to and from Sardinia.
Comfortable marinas in Sardinia for a holiday on the sea with boat charter
Sardinia's fascinating coastline has a length of more than 1,150 miles and besides the already mentioned harbours in Porto Cervo, Cannigione and Cagliari there are numerous smaller, but just as well equipped marinas along the coast, like Buggerru, Sant'Antioco or Carloforte in the southwest, Teulada or Perd'e Sali in the south, La Maddalena in the northeast, Oristano or Bosa on the west coast and Alghero and Porto Torres, to mentioned only some.
Due to the constant wind conditions the density of marinas is particularly high in the northeast near the famous Costa Smeralda. Altogether there are about 90 ports in Sardinia, all with a modern infrastructure and with a good basic service.
Discover Sardinia as a sailing paradise with constant winds and a fascinating coastline
Succesful sailing trips in Sardinia need wind and there is enough of it around the island. The main winds, in Sardinia are the fresh and prevailing Mistral (it. Maestrale) from the north-west with forces between 4 and 6 Bft (Beaufort) and the warm Scirocco from the south between 2 and 4 Bft. On the Beaufort scale, a wind strength 2 with speeds between 1 and 3 knots corresponds to light air, while the value 6 is already a strong breeze with speeds between 22 and 27 knots.
The west coast is dominated by the Mistral, and the east coast by the Scirocco, whereas the south is characterized by baffling winds. There is also the Libeccio which blows from the south-west. The winds in the north-east are in general more stable.
Corresponding to its length Sardinia's coast is very varied. So, there is nothing better than sailing along the coast and discovering small bays and caves that can only be reached from the sea.
Particularly popular areas are, of course, in the northeast the Costa Smeralda and the La Maddalena archipelago. But we also recommend the south and southwest, with its partly long sandy beaches and wild and rugged coastlines, where you can still partially observe the ruins of abandoned mines.
America's Cup participant Luna Rossa in Cagliari and regattas in Sardinia
That Sardegna is considered a sailing paradise also shows the fact that the Prada team of Luna Rossa has chosen Cagliari as a base for develoing and testing their new high-tech boat.
Of course, many local regattas take place in Sardinia every year, but an extraordinary international race is certainly the Rolex Swan Cup, which will be hosted alongside many other regattas by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda at the beginning of September.
