How long is the ferry to Sardinia

Obviously the duration of the journey depends from the departure port in Italy and the arrival port in Sardinia and if you choose a day trip (with departures between 6 am – 8 am) or an overnight connection (with departures from 8 pm to 10 pm). The overnight stays are slightly longer than the day trips.

The fastest connection with 5h is the day journey from Civitavecchia to Olbia or Golfo Aranci, the longest trip with approx. 15 h is from Genua to Cagliari. The main route from Genoa to Porto Torres or to Olbia and Golfo Aranci (all in the north of Sardinia) takes about 8 h.

If you opt for an overnight ride with the ferry to Sardinia we recommend to book a cabin, it is a more comfortable solution than to sleep in an armchair and you will arrive fully-refreshed in Sardinia.

If you prefer to have more privacy, there are different proposals for cabins: the more economic inside 2/4 berth cabins without window and the outside berth cabins with a window. Some companies offer also more spacious and comfortable suites.

In case of a 4 berth cabin there are two bunk-style beds.

The cabins are ensuite, so with private bathroom with bassin, shower and WC, air conditioned and have fresh linen and towels.

The ferry companies ensure the accessibility of their ships for passenger with disability or reduced mobility. And if you travel with your dog or your cat, don’t worry, you can book also a pet-friendly cabin on the ferry.

The modern ferries offer a lot of services to make the journey more pleasant. First of all, there are several bars that offer sandwiches, cakes, pastries and hot and cold drinks.

If you want to have lunch or dinner, you can use the self-service restaurant with its large, open dining area with a wide choice of foods or opt for the à la carte restaurant with more privacy in elegant surroundings. If you prefer to be served at the table we recommend to reserve in time once on board, especially in high saison when the ferries are full-booked.

On board Wi-Fi Internet access is provided in general with supplement, payable with credit card.

The ferries offers a lot of facilities for whiling the time away. You have the choice between cinema (with supplement), games rooms, shops and boutiques. For children there is a reserved playground area where they can enjoy fun, games and some animation movies.

And if the weather is fine, you can visit the sun deck, take a sun-bath, stroll around and dip into the swimming pool (valid only for some ferries).
