La Maddalena - Olbia Tempio (OT)

The main village of Maddalena island called La Maddalena has about 12.000 inhabitants and achieved a certain prosperity thanks to its fishing and sea-trade traditions. The Maddalena island situated in the north-east of Sardinia in front of Palau makes part of the La Maddalena Archipelago, which includes seven islands and some islets. Because of its beauty - crystal clear waters and eroded granite coastlines - and its haven for wildlife the archipelago became a geomarine national park with approx. 180 km of coast. Maddalena is the biggest of the offshore islands.

The island is connected by regular ferry service from the harbor to Palau and by a dam with the neighbor island Caprera, the greenest of the archipelago. At Caprera one can vist for example the Garibald museum, which is dedicated to Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Italian freedom fighter. He retired at Caprera and died there in 1882.

To enjoy the beauties we recommend to drive the coastal road of Maddalena island (and to take some refreshing baths in one of the sandy coves) or to take part in a guided boat trip into the Archipelago.
