Arborea in brief – tourist information and more
Arborea, whose economy bases on the cultivation of fruit and vegetables, is located on the western coast of Sardinia and makes part of the province of Oristano. Arborea is about 3 km away from the nearest sandy beach.
Green fields on which vegetable rice and fruits are grown. Also known for its dairy products, you will find them everywhere in the markets of Sardinia. The Town Hall (Palazzo Comunale) houses an archaeological collection with finds from the Roman necropolis S’Ungroni. Within 20 kilometers you will find beautiful beaches such as Spiaggia di Pistis in the south, and the wide beach of Spiaggia di Maimoni in the north. In about five kilometers away you will find the dog beach of Abarossa.
The town was built in 1928 by the Fascist government and was called originally Mussolinia. After World War II is was renamed as Arborea and become one of the main agricultural centres of Sardinia.
It is possible to explore the surroundings on comfortable bicycle lanes which pass through a shaddy pine wood and reach the near beach.
We recommend to visit the beautiful beaches of the region, for example the fascinating rice-grains beaches Is Arutas and Mare Ermi, and the archeological site of Tharros.
