Su Nuraxi di Barumini, about 65 kilometres north of Cagliari, is an example of the early period of Sardinia. The Barumini complex, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is considered the best and most complete example of this remarkable form of prehistoric architecture.

In the late 2nd millennium B.C., in the Bronze Age, the island of Sardinia developed a special type of defensive structure known as Nuraghi (which cannot be found anywhere else in the world). Guided tours in different languages give an excellent impression of the history and architecture at that time.
